1) To facilitate construction of the Carmel Photography Museumas a permanent historic repository for photographs from thr Pre-Digital Era and public exhibition space devoted to traditional fine art photography as legendary master photographers, Ansel Adams and Brett Weston both expressed a desire to create during their lifetimes;

2) To award regular grants to working photographers distinguished for their mastery of intuitive, contemplative photographic seeing coupled with impeccable traditional wet darkroom craft;

3) To support multi-media projects and publications at least once every five years about the history of Carmel photography and facilitating scholarly research by contemporary writers and film makers in promoting public awareness of Carmel's unique historic legacy.

If you - or someone you know - would like to be involved in this new non-profit, please contact Carol Williams at the telephone number or email address listed at the bottom. A downtown location is currently available and we are looking for donors to meet the initial operating budget of $50,000 and volunteers to launch the new photography museum ideally within the next six months! Our inaugural exhibition will be The Weston Legacy accompanied by a historic display titledOne Hundred Years of Carmel Photography with related publications currently underway. We aim to charge no admission so anyone can freely learn the local history of this art medium. Thank you for supporting the dream voiced by both Ansel Adams and Brett Weston during their lifetimes. "The future of Arts Habitat is suddenly looking much brighter" said Arts Habitat president Martha Manson.

Recent discussions among representatives of Union Community Partners, Monterey County Supervisors and the Redevelopment Agency on the subject of East Garrison development have indicated a desire to reassess the construction schedule in order to move the project forward.

Supervisors Potter and Parker Announce New Committment from Union Community Partners

Following a meeting with Supervisors Jane Parker and Dave Potter on issues surrounding East Garrison development, Union Community Partners vice-president Jim Fletcherwrote a letter to Supervisor Potter showing willingness to "bring some element of the Arts District to fruition in conjunction with Phase I of the project."

At Arts Habitat's first annual art auction (AHA!) on October 16, the letter was read by Supervisor Potter to an audience of 75 people at the Carmel Woman's Club. Fletcher said he is "confident that there are efficient and effective ways to bring the needed infrastructure to portions of the planned Arts District in order to accelerate development of this critical amenity."

Supervisor Jane Parker and Congressman Sam Farr, both long-time supporters of Arts Habitat, were present and heartily endorsed Jim Fletcher's commitment.

so i stumbled across this article about photographers traveling abroad that caught my eye.

if you don't want to have to pay double duty on your equipment (and any of your other stuff), it would be wise to register all your belongings before you leave the U.S.

problem is you have to fill out a separate form for each and every piece of gear you want to declare.

and then you have to carry all of this original paperwork with you so you have it should customs decide to inspect your stuff, because they don't keep copies nor enter all this data into their system. what a royal PITA! i think these certificates are reusable so you don't have to repeat this process every time you travel abroad. thank god for the paper reduction act. :-)

Bach Festival Photography:

Volunteer photographers help us to capture and preserve each Festival.

Photographers will shoot at rehearsals, performances and special events as appropriate.

Photographers will be given a desired shot list by staff members, as well as times and dates to shoot.

Photographers must have prior photography experience, have a digital camera, and be able to provide image files on a CD, DVD or external drive for upload to our digital library.

Photography volunteers should make arrangements with volunteer coordinator in order to obtain desired shoot lists and determine photography needs.

All photographs become the property of the Carmel Bach Festival.

When photos are used, the photographer will be credited whenever possible.
